i can paint a wall now!

yesterday i worked over at Miss Ethels house with a group from Hands On. It was nice to get in to stuff like that again. I need to do it more often. Quincy taught me how to roll out a wall. Now i have painted my room and all, but she taught me how to do it right. So i now have a new skill. yeah!

other than that, i went to sweets and played a few games of pool. I beat Burt with an awesome bank shot of the 8 ball. that is only the second bank shot i have ever made, so i am really excited about that. and the fact that i beat Burt is pretty awesome..
After kicking Burt's ass, he kicked mine, and since we were playing for a kiss on the cheek the second game, i had to pucker up and deliver.
You know, i love the folks at Sweets. They really look out for me and care about me. It is like having a second family. Burt sat and listened to me bitch about how stupidly shy i get some times, which is something i am really self conscious about, and i end up acting really stupid and awkward. And i appreciate him listening to all of that crap. I needed an ear last night.

After i got done pouring out my anxieties to burt, i went to hang out with a few other friend's at their house, and thats about it for my evening.

Right now i am not listening to anything, not even NPR which is weird. ok, now i am. I am trying to figure out what i am going to listen to on my run with sweet deloris.

alright, well... there is my post for the day. are you happy james? hha just kidding. i am trying to get better about posting more, and the answer to your question is no, i have no leads, i have been slack or busy, which ever you would like to say. Buck, the ass hole won first, jay, a guy who comes in late, won second and Super awesome Willie won third. it was a funny thing to see, and i am glad you will be down here for the next one!

Its been a long time... i have been busy

So i have been busy, and i dont think i am going to give you a recap of everything since i last posted. Some basics:

James came down to look for a place to live. I think he and i are going to be roommates. I like where i live, but i think it will be nice to have a roommate or two, because it gets awfully lonely over here, way away from everyone i work with and most of the people i know. it was nice to have company and we stayed totally busy the entire time.

Friday night i went dinner with a friend, and hung out on the beach and shared a bottle of wine. It was a pretty great evening, what with good food, friendship, and the beach. It makes me feel really lucky to live here. That was the first time i have really ever hung out on the beach, and my company made it even nicer.

Saturday, i went to work in biloxi at the red house. I helped level some brackets that were going on the footings for the new covered area. I am not sure what they are calling it, whether it is a porch or an awning or a shaded area, but that is what i did. I did not stay too long, because my ride had to go to miss ethel's house. I going there tomorrow to help float the floor. I have never done that before, so this will be a good learning experience.

Also on saturday, i had to work at sweets. It was the chicken shit contest. I was really surprised by how long it took for the chicken to shit three times, but it took about 5 hours. It was a funny event though.

After the chicken finally pooped, and i got off work, i went to the shed, and heard a band and spent time with friends from work. I nice close to a busy day. I went home and passed out, i was exhausted.

Today... well, today was a busy day as well. I forgot to turn off my alarm clock, and i ended up getting up at 5:45 am. But it was alright, i got up, made coffee, and headed to the grocery store. when i got home, i started the laundry, and took deloris on a run, then rode my bike to the gym. When i got home i made some oatmeal molasses bread. It turned out well, although i thought i had messed it up. I grilled a steak for lunch today and the next few days. Then i took a nap and went back to sweets. It was a pretty quiet night up there, except of course for the Nascar Race. (james: i am sorry about jeff gorden!)

Now i am sitting at home and typing this blog, and watching my dog try to catch flies. She is doing a pretty good job. I think she just got her second one. I am also listening to bonnie prince billy. Alight, time for me to tuck my self into my bed so that i can work at full strength.

Sorry, james, did not mean to call you out in my title, but i could not think of anything else to call it. anyway, i dont really mean it. I some times get defensive when i get called out(like when i havnt posted in a while). It will be nice to see you again. hurry back you bad ass masters holder!!!! alright, so now that i have my personal message to james completed, here is a quick run down of my life over the last few weeks


Things have been busy, and i think i have been using my flickr account as my blog. oh well. so i ended up not having the dinner party because i got pretty sick with a sore throat and a stopped up nose. Oh well... we will do it later.


i went to the rural studio a few weekends ago for some openings... both the hospital and the lioins park were having their openings. I went with the students of the GCCDS and the women of the GCCDS. We got to stay with Joey Aplin, a current Rural Studio thesis student,

on our trip we also visited the AMAZING Kennedy Print Shop. Amos Kennedy was kind enough to show us how letter press printing works, and let us make our own poster. Not only was the poster completely bad ass, but we did it while drinking wine, and eating cheese.

We have moved into our new office, and the GCCDS website is up.
Oh yeah, another note to james: please send me a picture and bio, so i can put it up on line.

so... things are going well... and you all have been reading me talking to james... well.. he was one of the students down here, but now he has his masters and is heading back down here. has posted a good guide to the folks down here. you should check it out.

and the only person left to describe is james, so i thought i would do it. although i am not nearly as funny or charming as james.


That being said the funny and charming James Wheeler was a student at UMN and now is the proud owner of a Masters Degree!!!!! He enjoys whiskey drinks and good scotch, and can build a damn good bar in an afternoon. While he was down here working on his higher education he was also giving his muscles to the red house and the nixon house. James was/and will be again when he returns to the coast, a frequenter of Sweets, and a lover of craw fish. James was my date for an evening at the Pub, and held my hand as we walked there from Hands On.


So... that is about it for now.... i will be better about posting in the future!!!

Momma's coming, and my first dinner party.

Last night I went to hands on for the first time in a while. I was supposed to make it for the date auction, but i was too late. They were auctioning off all of the architects. But i did make it there in time for the Tallent Show. i had a wonderful time. there. There are some amazing tallents there. I heard a few really great poems, and this one guy that is an Architecture student from UMN does strikingly close impressions of frogs, kangaroos, rabbits, walrus, marionettes, and a CGI man. But the funniest thing he did was lay down on the ground and made his hand into a monster, and made it attack a pack of cigarettes. It was great. I wish i had a video.

We made our way to the PUB after the show was over. I have to say... i really enjoy visiting hands on... but i am glad i dont live there, but i really like their activities, and almost everyone there is really friendly, smart and fun.

Anyway....

My Momma is coming today. Hells yeah! We are going to try one of the nice restaurants down town, i think mosaic, the tapas bar. Then i am working tonight, and mom is going to hang out up there for a while and meet a few more of my friends. The ones that met her on Mardi Gras are excited to hear that she is coming back. I am sure it is going to be a fun day.

Tomorrow we are heading to Baton Rouge for the Auburn v. LSU baseball game. It is a ladie's trip. A bunch of my Momma's girl friends are already there. Oh... I feel trouble coming on.


OH! and the other thing. MY DINNER PARTY
So, i have decided that i am going to have a dinner party for about 15 people on tuesday night. I am pretty excited, and a bit nervous... because 15 people is a lot of people to cook for, especially on a work day.... hahaha... it is all good though, i can handle it.

So the menu so far is:
Appetizers:
Pepper Jelly, Cream Cheese, and Ritz Crackers

Main Course:
Jessie's super big crazy salad.... if you have ever had my salad's you know what that has in it.
Crawfish Quiche

Dessert:
Banana Walnut Bread Pudding with a buttery rum sauce.

I am needing a few more appetizers and something else with the main course. if anyone has any suggestions please let me know....
Right now i dont have a blender, so my spring vegie soups are kind of out of the questions, and my salad is crazy full of vegies. I am kind of thinking about a black bean soup.... alright, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. oh.. and i dont want anything white/yellow, the quiche is already that.... alright...

all that being said, time for me to clean my place.... my momma will be here soon.

A trip to the RS

I decided to leave town for a few days this weekend. It is the first time I have left the coast since Christmas Break, and it was much needed. I decided that i would go see my friends up at the Rural Studio, so i took Delores to the baby sitter's, packed my car, picked up my friend and took off.
We took the back roads there, and stopped in Tomaston, AL to see the Rural Heritage Center and the Farmers Market. This was my friend's first time at the Rural Studio, so we had to see as much as we could. I was delighted to find out that they are now serving brunch and dinner at the Rural Heritage Center. Their menu looked wonderful.
We made our way to Newbern, with quick stops at the Morrisette House, the pods, Sub Rosa, and the spencer house. We made our way to Greensboro, and called up danny, who has a sweet(some would say wicked) apartment downtown he was letting us crash in.
Ate Mexican , went to the new restaurant o'grands for a beer with Jeremy, the new bartender, and made our way out to Club 28 which makes Sweets look like the Beau Rivage.

The next day, we ran up to Mason's bend, then to Akron, to try to see Amos(the bad ass print maker) and the boys and girls club. Amos was not there, but the boys and girls club and the senior citizens center were. We headed to Perry Lakes Park, stopping at the Pig in Greensboro for picnic supplies. At Perry lakes park, we saw the pavillion, the bathrooms, the bridge, the walkways and the birding tower. But what we were aiming at in the park was the beach. It was a beautiful day... hot and sunny. We set out our towels stripped down to our bathing suits, and brought out our picnic, which included those little tuna kits, plums, oranges, apples, bananas, tomatoes and a 24 oz beer.

We got really good and hot laying out in the sun, and had to test our fate with the water of the Cahaba. It wasn't too cold, but at the same time it wasnt to easy to get in all of the way. Once we got used to the temperature of the water, it was really great and refreshing. I got back out, laid down on my towel and fell asleep for an hour or so. Apparently I was snoring.

We went back to greensboro, ate at O'grands, and hung out with some more friends. We watched danny , dan and mark dunk basketballs, and met Dan's sweet neighbor who runs the Martin Luther King Jr. Museum. The next morning we had to head back. I had to work at sweets, but thats ok. We took the smallest roads we could find, and only got lost once.

ahh what a good weekend.
